Franklin Mathletes Have Strong Showing At State

The Franklin Math Team competed in the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association state championship this weekend, sans injured sixth grade coach John Pickens, a tournament we previewed in Friday’s paper. Despite their coach’s absence, the sixth graders placed high on the calculator test, with Yuel Tesfu placing seventh and Heather McKay rounding out the top 10.

Seventh grade had an even stronger showing. Chris Glispin and Basi Rijsdijk (the two on the right pictured above) placed ninth and 12th, respectively, on the calculator test, and the team placed fifth overall.

Here’s hoping Pickens will be on-hand for next year’s competition.
