Signs, Signs, Everywhere Are Signs

We’ve all seen the University Park Community League’s endorsements for the May 8 election. The league is backing City Council candidates Bob Clark, Jerry Grable, Bob Begert, and Tommy Stewart in front yards and store windows all over University Park.

Well, now there are HUGE signs on either side of the Chase Bank building endorsing Begert and three other candidates: Steve Cooke, Steve Metzger, and Alan Wasserman.

“We’ve all seen the University Park Community League’s endorsements for the May 8 election.” Did I miss that edition of PCP? Can you provide a link perhaps?

I wonder how these candidates would vote on the Chase building rezoning? I suspect this is the reason for the withdrawal of the rezoning petition…and that it will magically reappear after the election.

my first reaction was “are these legal?” … can any building in town just smack a giant billboard/advertisement on the side … no zoning requirements for ads/billboards in the park cities? just wondering … kind of reminds me of litter … just smacks you right in the face …

Eric, I can’t provide a link, but we noted the UP Community League’s endorsements in a story in our March 12 edition, and the Community League took out an ad in our April 23 edition.

Dan, it would be great to see a “Voter’s Guide” set of questions asked of each of these candidates, now that we actually have competition. “Endorsed by the UP Community League” or “Endorsed by Legacy Development” … Neither are reasons for voting for a particular candidate. If such a thing is done, don’t forget to ask the candidate for Mayor. And don’t forget about my favorite write-in candidate, Max for Mayor.

Saw these at lunch today. Ultimate in tacky and poor taste. I only saw the south facing sign, had no idea there was another!

Thanks for the bump bdad! I’ve had several customers come in today and mention it. One said “It’s just like all of Legacy’s proposals so far, too big and totally out of character with the neighborhood.” I’m thinking there is nothing better to unite our community than the perception that someone is trying to buy their way in.

I hope they leave the signs up and just pay the fines untill the election is over. Shake them up a bit. Vote for Steve Cooke!
