I’m Sliding; Who’s Going With Me?

One week from right now, I will be finishing up a test drive of the new slide and high dive at the Curtis Park Pool. My exploits will be photographed for a story in the May 28 edition of Park Cities People. (They’ll also be videotaped, and the video will be posted on this blog.)

But that story will be much better if it includes some kids’ perspectives on the new facilities. So let’s have a contest: I’m looking for two Park Cities residents ages 9-12 who can miss school for a couple of hours next Thursday and meet me at the pool at 11 a.m. (Unfortunate timing, I know, but we had to work around the schedules of the city staff.) If your kid would like to join me, have him/her write an essay of 100 words or so about why he/she deserves to go down the slide before all his/her friends do. We’ll name the winners on Monday morning.

Essays can be sent to [email protected] Please include your home address and parents’ names and phone numbers. At least one parent will have to be present during the photo shoot. If you have any other questions, give me a call: 214-523-5272.

We’ve got competing slides and high dives at Caruth AND Curtis parks? We’re gonna need them with all the DCC pool interlopers.

FYI 8th Graders will get a shot at the slide before anyone else. Celebration 8 holds their pool party this Friday at the UP Pool so it looks like a lucky Park Cities 8th grader will get the honor of first to go down the slide!

My 9 year old will already be out of school and would LOVE to do it. He’s been salivating over that slide for months. Email me!

@M: Oops. I’ll correct my mistake.

@HP mom: Yeah, I heard about that party. It stopped me from billing this as “you can be THE first kid to go down the slide.”

Is it just me or does it look like the slide ends over concrete. A bunch of kids in my car mentioned it the other day and the picture looks like it does, too! Also, expecting the pool to be CROWDED this summer! Really wish they would be tough on just letting residents in like the HP pool! Even if you are a UP resident you cant come unless you are a guest of a HP resident. Last summer, everyone I met at the pool lived in Lakewood or Devonshire and had just paid $5 or $10 to get in and were NOT with residents. Sorry, just had to vent …. preparing for the crowds!

Dear UP Pool: My name is Lars. I’ll probably be there a lot because Texas is too hot in the summer and I’m too poor (or smart) to have my own pool. My kids have all learned how to swim with you and they are looking forward to your new toys.

Let’s try to keep the crowds to a minimum.

G2-it’s obvious which kids are are HP/UP kids and which kids are Lakewood/Devonshire scum. Just put me in charge and I’ll keep that rifraf out.
If your son/daughter happens to misbehave then we will chalk it up to a non-medicated day.
Dan, your kids can play with mine any day.
G2, your HP bias makes me hot.

    @grump just made my day

Due to the unseasonably chilly and wet spring, my pool is still unseasonably freezing cold. Has anyone dipped a toe into this one?

To all of you who are concerned the pool will be too crowded for comfort, just do what I do…. I just drop off my 4 kids (age 10 and under) and my 12 year old babysitter who hangs out with the off-duty lifeguards while incessantly texting. It’s great! You don’t have to deal with the crowds and other parents watch your kids for you!

@ grump … think what you want, but the pool is too crowded and because of this somewhat dangerous. I dont think it is asking too much to keep our neighborhood pool just that … NOT because they dont live in UP or to use your sarcastic words “scum” but because of the insane crowds. Have you driven by the HP pool lately, it’s empty compared to UP. And finally, I DO have a child who takes medicine for Attentiveness and who is very well behaved with or without medication!

Also, C8 was cancelled today. Dan, you will get to be the first one down the slide!

@G2–the slide ends in its own little pool, separate from the big pool.
