Will New Filter Station be The End of Bottled Water?

I visited the Dallas County Park Cities Municipal Utility Department this morning. I guess you could put “water filtration” on the list of things I never considered interesting.

But after getting a tour of the facility that provides drinking water to the Park Cities, I have to tell you that watching creek water turn into the stuff that comes out of the faucet is a pretty interesting process. At least, Larry McDaniel, the general manager of the plant, made it interesting.

What really piqued my interest is the new filtration system the DCPCMUD is planning with some of the $33 million in Texas Water Development Board bond money. McDaniel said that the new filters would make the water that comes from the facility equivalent to filtered bottled water, which can get pretty pricey.

Great article! It’s easy to take for granted having clean water delivered to our homes, and available day and night for us, our pets, our plants, and a variety of cleaning and sanitary uses.

Years ago, because of a water-main break, I was without water at the house for about 18 hours. Four hours of that time, I played golf with a neighbor who also lost water. But, the rest of the day – and much of the evening – was spent with neighbors on the phone asking when the water would be back on. We were reduced to a Third World neighborhood.

Thank You, Larry McDaniel, for keep the water flowing. I’ll never take what you do for granted again!
