Jerry Jones is Park Cities’ Most Powerful Person

Perhaps you’ve heard of the DFW Most Powerful list. It’s already been made fun of on the Observer and D Magazine blogs.

Take this for what it’s worth, but Jerry Jones is the highest-ranked Park Cities resident. The Cowboys’ owner and general manager has the No. 7 slot, two ahead of fellow Highland Park resident Harlan Crow.

The most powerful person in University Park, according to this list, is SMU benefactor Gerald J. Ford, who came in at No. 12, right behind Mark Cuban. (The Mavericks’ owner lives in Preston Hollow, as do six of the top 10 people on this list.)

This photo scares me. That and my dog sometimes poops in Jerry’s yard, but I ALWAYS clean it up.

OK, I’m sort of tired of being the only commenter today but I have to say – I took a peak at that list and it is ridiculous. Really ridiculous.

I didn’t know Ed Cox Sr. died or had a widow named Jeannie.

As one of the professionals behind ‘DFW Most Powerful”, we welcome corrections, and apologize for any offense to these fine leaders. We will correct these errors and strive to prevent them in the future.

We don’t believe the Dallas Observer blog ‘made fun’ of our efforts, but was a reasonably accurate reflection of our interview.

The D Magazine Blog was ‘dubious’ of our ranking for Mr. Allison. But we believe his distinguished journalism career both locally and nationally, over several decades, combined with the power of all modern media, warranted this rank.

As for Mr. Jones he exercises his power professionally and as a celebrity, but less so in the political and charitable arenas, when compared to others. Our methodology weighs all these factors, with often surprising results.

We welcome a continuing lively debate on this new web site.

I can’t figure out how they got their data: and what’s up with the couples sharing a spot?
Anyway, here’s my list of who is most likely to influence UP: (they don’t all live here, but influence all the same)
    Merritt Patterson
    Gary Adams
    Kelly Walker
    Dawson Orr
    Paul Peters
    James Sackett
    Randy Allen
    Skip Moran
    Mark Craig
    Richard Bohac

@localtop10 — love your list! Yes, I would say the people on your list above have a lot more influence over my life than Jerry Jones or Harlan Crow.

    RE: @G2

I beg to differ with you, @G2 – GROW UP! You’re either way too young to be posting to this blog, or you’ve been a PC brat for far too long.

The “LIST” presented in the dfwmostpowerful.com website has a much larger scope than you’ll ever have. Just because someone doesn’t have an impact on YOUR life, doesn’t mean they don’t merit being put at a particular position on the list of Most Power People in DFW.

And, BTW – the dfwmostpowerful.com list isn’t about wealth alone, or that they live in HP or UP (both, but small blemishes on a map of DFW). And, the list furnished by @localtop10, is but a compilation of a few small-timers, wanna-bes, and those whose times have come and gone: an ISD super from Wichita Falls (how many of you PC brats would be caught dead wearing a pair of shoes made in Wichita Falls) who, by the way, has accomplished dropping the ranking of HP schools down from 23rd to 36th nationally (don’t believe me? See Newsweek.com – Top 100 High Schools in America – 2010), a local musician (yawn), two OrthoPeds from the same clinic, one of which is only the SON of someone famous in Kidney Transplants, a high school coach (now, there’s some power), a middle school principle and assistant principle (my, but our world is small – how OLD are you, anyway?), the Pasteur of one of the most money-absorbing churches in the world (wonder if all that money goes out to help those who need it, or just stays inside of HPUMC – my guess is…), and a writer for this blog, who has been sited for and reassigned after stalking under-aged kids on MySpace, and re-profiling so she would have a little content to write about, I guess.

So, the list that was put together by @localtop10, is much more dubious than any I find on the dfwmostpowerful.com list, by far.

Here’s a question for @G2: Who is more powerful? Jerry Jones (net worth est. by Forbes in 2009, $1.5 Billion), or Jesus Christ (net worth not listed by Forbes)? And then, where again did you say those assistant principles would rank?

Let’s define power one more time, shall we! I think I’ll stick with the list over at dfwmostpowerful.com – they, at least, seem to be trying to get it right.

    RE: @Kersten Rettig

So, you’re saying that the LIST is ridiculous, yet walking from your house on Edmondson to Jerry’s house on Preston (over a mile, one way – that’s a 2 mile + walk, in the hot Texas heat) just to let everyone know that you let your dog “poop” on his lawn (oh, but you “pick it up”) is NOT ridiculous? I’ve heard of name dropping, but “poop-dropping” – that’s a new one!

You and your dog should be very proud!

So, once again, comments about the dfwmostpowerful.com site are interesting (but, consider the sources).

And, BTW – you never mentioned “WHY’ you thought the list was ridiculous – why not enlighten us!

Goodness @ Thomas H. — you must have been having a bad day. I was just being light-hearted with my comments. I liked the list because I have children in the elementary, middle and high schools. I attend Highland Park United Methodist church, etc. The decisions some of these people make impact my life and my children’s life on a day-to-day basis more than Jerry Jones, etc. I dont dispute that the people on THE list have done good things, made donations and contributions to the city. For goodness sake, I used to work for Trammell Crow Company … I guess at that point … Harlan Crow did have an impact on my life and my paycheck. Last but not least, I dont think it was necessary for you to say the things you did about @localtop10’s list of people. I would be curious what you have done lately and why you are so angry and eager to berate those who do not agree with you?

@Thomas H. … And yes, I would rather my children look up to Randy Allen, Skip Moran, Mark Craig, and most especially Richard Bohac ahead of your “esteemed” Jerry Jones. Think whatever you like about what that says about me!

Thomas H is either a wannabe or neverwas.
G2 was having fun. Chill dude.
I’m always amused at people that get their panties in a twist over an opinion based list.
