Another Katy Trail Collision Just Occurred

According to an HP Crime Watch alert, a vehicle collided with a cyclist at Cole and Harvard avenues. If you can, please use an alternate route.

This is the second collision on the Katy Trail in just a matter of weeks. Considering the high volume of users and the dangerous situations such density creates, the Friends of the Katy Trail is launching a safety awareness drive on Wednesday with the help of former Dallas Cowboy Troy Aikmen. Head out to David’s Way, the trailhead at Knox Street near Abbott Avenue from 5 to 6 p.m. to meet Troy and sign a safety pledge.

The safety awareness drive lasts though the weekend, with Friends of the Katy Trail members and volunteers stationed along the paths offering tips and helping trail users renew their Friends of the Katy Trail membership. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Ashleigh Falk at [email protected].

Instead of safety awareness pledges, I vote for bike regulation such as setting a speed limit or restricting bikes all together!

A stop sign was placed on the trail(for the trail) at that intersection about a month ago.
I don’t know what happened but accidents sometimes just happen. Hopefully the rider will be fine.

We need to find an alternative pathway for walkers and bikers. There are too many careless pedestrians on the Katy Trail. Fortunately, there are a lot of great sidewalks in the PCs.

“There are too many careless pedestrians on the Katy Trail.”

There are too many careless cyclists and inline skaters on the trail. BTW, the real Lance rides his bike on the street so perhaps the wannabes should follow his lead (excluding the juice).

I’m especially concerned about all the drunks I’ve seen on the trail since the Katy Trail Ice House has opened. The Katy Trail was such a nice place till that place opened.

@ Lance the Juicer – We’re working on it. You, and others of a like mind, can help by joining Friends of the Trinity Strand Trail and encouraging your friends to do so. Go to http://www.trinitystrand.org for more info.
