You Can Help ‘Be The Match’

Ann Hinckley Anderson is a University Park 3-year-old fighting for her life. Ann has a rare blood disorder called aplastic anemia, which is caused by a lack of functioning bone marrow cells. These cells produce red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Because of blood and platelet transfusions, Ann has been able to enjoy many of the things a regular toddler might, like Disney princesses and playgrounds and such. However, if her condition worsens, Ann will need a bone marrow transplant to stay alive.

That’s where you come in. As part of the National Bone Marrow Registry’s “Be The Match” campaign, volunteers will be staffing the Biggers Recreational Building at Highland Park United Methodist Church from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. You can donate blood and get on the National Bone Marrow Registry all at once.

Last year’s drive netted 100 pints of blood and 274 new members of the National Bone Marrow Registry. Here’s hoping they can top those numbers.

If you donated before are you already in the registry? That sweet face … would give anything to be a match for her 🙂
