Plaintiffs in Kamp Kanakuk Suit Ask Court For a Restraining Order

Plaintiffs in the Kamp Kanakuk legal saga filed a motion last week asking  for an injunction and/or restraining order. According to the filing, Joe T. White, the camp’s owner and a defendant in the suit, just won’t stop contacting the plaintiffs directly.

“Shortly after the Defendants were served, Plaintiffs’ counsel contacted defense counsel and requested that Defendant Joe T. White stop contacting the Plaintiffs. Defense counsel agreed that his client would no longer contact the Plaintiffs. Again, on June 25, 2011, Defendants’ counsel agreed that no further contact would occur. However, on July 8, 2011, a package from Defendant White and his wife, arrived at the Doe home.”

Maybe Joe White learned a thing or two about “grooming” from his ex-employee.

“To establish a good relationship with the child and the child’s family, child groomers might do several things. For example, they might take an undue interest in someone else’s child, to be the child’s “special” friend to gain the child’s trust. They might give gifts or money to the child for no apparent reason (toys, dolls, etc.).” [Source]

Very disappointing. If true, Joe White should be ashamed of himself.

Let me guess: Joe T. White and his wife are attempting to “help” the victims through good, Christian outreach? Shameful.

Joe White would not be desperately contacting the plaintiff unless he is running scared. It would seem if he felt innocent he would allow the legal process to work in his favor. Even after his attorney says the contact would stop he sends a package. Very strange behavior by a man who knows his days are numbered. Kanakuk has been great in many ways over the years despite this man and his inexcusable cover up of sexual abuse taking place right in front of him.

I can’t imagine what this family is going through on a daily basis, but I do know them, and this is so outrageous it’s disturbing. I think the previous comments nailed the gist of it. Grooming, shame, and an implicit acknowledgement of guilt by White. White and his staff have spent endless hours over the last few years trying to control the victims and families through additional “spiritual” counseling over the phone. Many have settled. Many chose not to pursue litigation, as the shame is just too much. In fact, when someone strays from White’s counseling on this matter, i.e. screening calls or not responding to gifts, White has a habit of showing up on their doorstep…regardless of location. It’s very, very disturbing. This is a great, loving family of devout faith. They only seek to protect their son and prevent future abuse at Kanakuk, or at any similar program.

I hope the family knows that there are a lot of us out there who support them in our thoughts.

    KR-

The supposed cover up you just mentioned had nothing to do with Kanakuk in Branson. He drove a vehicle for k-life on a trip. He lives in Orlando, and has never been employed by the camp.

I will not be sending my children to Kanakuk. After what I’ve seen in the news over the last few years, I’m not sure I’ll send them to any overnight camp-ever. What ashame. These perverts should not be listed as sex offenders. They should all be in the morgue upon their very first conviction.

One of the camps our children attended (not this one) I was shocked once we started looking into who the counsilors were, how that camp could allow them to be at the camp at all, let alone to be a mentor or counsilor to anyone for that matter. We know longer allow our children to go to camp at all. They will all be held accoutable in the end and I know that doesn’t sound soon enough, but I would not want to be standing in their shoes when that happens. Ane please don’t get me wrong, their are alot of good camps out there also, with alot of Happy Campers. My kids Loved camp, feel like that was stole away from them due to people like this, not keeping control of themselves,

If the perp had been a wealthy, politically connected person, he would not have been prosecuted.
