Stephanie Velasquez and Andrew Szatan weddingStephanie E. Velasquez and Andrew A. Szatan were married the evening of Oct. 30, 2010, in the Sculpture Garden at the Dallas Museum of Art. The ceremony was officiated by Carol Sage.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Velasquez III of University Park. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lily Velasquez and the late Mr. Stephen Velasquez Jr., also of University Park; and the late Mrs. Edna Young of Wanette, Okla. and the late Mr. Lester Polk of Kilgore, Texas.

The groom is the son of Mr. Jerry Szatan and Ms. Katherine Abbott of Chicago. He is the grandson of Mrs. Urszula Szatan and the late Mr. Waclaw Szatan of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Browne of Fountain Hills, Ariz.

The bride and her father traveled an aisle lined with votive candles on the ground and in the trees above. A string quartet played some of the couple’s favorite songs during the ceremony.

The guests moved into the Hamon Atrium for the reception. Following a seated dinner, festive Halloween masks were handed out and everyone took photos in a photo booth and danced the night away. The masks and a trick-or-treat bar paid tribute to a romance that began on Halloween 2003, almost 7 years earlier to the day.

The bride chose a strapless dupioni silk gown designed by Lea Ann Belter. Her dress featured a mermaid silhouette skirt with a chapel-length train and was adorned with Alencon lace and tiny silk buttons extending the entire length of the bodice. Her custom-made airy, delicate veil cascaded down her back with soft, ribbon lined folds.

Attending the bride as maids of honor were Sarada Rao and Kathryn Galatzan. Bridesmaids were Nicole Montero, Rachael Ramon, Heather Amalaha, and Elizabeth Nemia. Members of the house party included Irina Melnik, Amanda Fornecker, Eve Chou, Laura Webb, and Izabella Dennis. The flower girl was Adanna Amalaha.

Serving the groom as best man was Andrew Erskine. Aaron May, Adam Szymoniak, Nick Jasinski, Griffin McGee, and Remi Korenblit served as groomsmen. Ushers were Nathan Hayner, John David Gonzales II, Martin Ruscitti, Jeremy Moorehouse and Matthew Duhig. The ring bearer was Matthew Alpha.

The bride is a 2003 graduate of Highland Park High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in nutrition and food studies in 2007 from New York University. The bride was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority in college, where she held a position on the executive board all four years, including president.

The groom is a 2003 graduate of Lincoln Park High School of Chicago, where he was a National Merit Scholar. He received his Bachelor of Arts in individualized studies from New York University in 2007, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is the director of marketing for Conversion Partners, LLC in New York.

Following their honeymoon in Vieques, Puerto Rico, the couple now reside in Tampa, Fla.
