That Four-Way Stop on Hillcrest? You Can Thank a Driver For That.

We’ve gotten a few emails regarding the four-way stop at Hillcrest and McFarlin, asking why it’s there.

Turns out, a few weeks back a driver crashed into the traffic light pole. The city then had to order a new pole, pour the concrete, let the concrete set, erect the pole, install the lights, set the timer on the lights, etc. According to University Park wonder Steve Mace, the light is supposed to be up and running today.

If it isn’t, wait a little while. Enjoy the scenery. Take a deep breath, then sing along to that Ke$ha song on the radio. Problem solved.

Dear mystery driver, Please feel free to help slow traffic down on Hillcrest anytime you want to. Why is Hillcrest two lanes, stop signs and cops on every corner in HP, but big and fast enough to land a 747 on in UP? I bet most of the drivers on the UP stretch don’t even live there. Why accomodate them? How about some landscaped medians instead?

I hear the city has some plans for that…isn’t it about time for a “Dick Davis Park”?
