Last Call: Where Do Your Kids Eat Free?

I’ve followed up on the leads left by kind readers in the comments section of this post, but I thought I’d give it one more shot. After calling more than two dozen restaurants in and around the Park Cities, I was surprised to find only about 10 that offer free kids’ meals on a given night.

As the commenter “Scooter” pointed out, not everyone buys into the whole give-me-something-for-nothing-thing. To wit, he/she said, “Somehow I just can’t imagine anyone pulling up in a Range Rover and asking if the kids eat free. Seems somewhat tacky.”

But most of the wealthy folk I know got that way by being conservative with their money and taking advantage of good deals. If you’ve snagged free food for your kid at a local eatery, name-drop the business in the comments so they can be featured in Friday’s issue of Park Cities People.

“Kids eat free” nights are more about the invitation. It means they want us there when they know that our alternative was to just stay home. By the time my wife and I order drinks and entrees, I assume that the owner is more than happy to have us there for the cost of a few chicken strips than have the table sit empty. I am also fairly certain I more than make up for the “free” kids’ meals with an order of queso or the top shelf margarita.

    To answer the question, though…

Good manners earn a free meal at one of my favorite spots-Texadelphia in Old Town. Kids eat free Wednesdays when they say “please” when they order.

With the huge portions they serve at most restaurants, our kids eat free most of the time by eating off our plates – they are little kids though. In most cases we avoid these ‘deals’ (and kids menus for that matter) because the meals are almost never 1) delicious 2) nutritious.

The kids menu that we actually do like is from Dive Coastal in Snider Plaza but the food is so good there, we don’t restrict the children to the kids menu.
