UP Council to Take up Library Funding

As of October 1, the University Park Library will become part of the UP government, a wrinkle necessitated by rules set forth when the city allowed the construction of the new library in the Plaza at Preston Center.

ANYWAY, now that it’s a city department, it needs city cash. Most of its funding will still come from fundraising by the library, but another chunk of seed money will come from a $1.27 million gift from a former UP resident. The resident left her property in her will to the city back in the 80s, and now the city’s cashing in on the decades of interest that have accumulated.

That gift will catch the scrutiny of the new UP City Council  at 5 p.m. today. For a full agenda, head here. For more info on the gift, pick up Friday’s Park Cities People.
