Former First Lady Announces Book Festival Lineup

Yesterday in the backyard of her Preston Hollow home, Laura Bush announced the authors scheduled to attend the 2012 Texas Book Festival, which is set for Oct. 27 and 28 in the Texas State Capitol.

Among the lineup include Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Diaz, folk-singer/writer Jewel, and novelist Tim O’Brien. O’Brien is expected to receive the Texas Writer Award during the festival for his Vietnam War book titled “The Things They Carried.”

Bush also unveiled this year’s festival poster, designed by Texas artist Margie Crisp, featuring cliff swallows flying over the Colorado River. The free event will include author readings, presentations, panel discussions, and book signings.

‘‘There’s really something for everybody at the Texas Book Festival,’’ she said to the Associated Press during the event, after discussing the vast array of genres that will be at the event, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, biographies, memoirs, and children’s books.
