Don’t Forget Your Frozen Turkey This Morning

Rotary Club of Park Cities members are stationed outside Highland Park ISD campuses as I type, collecting frozen turkeys that will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank as part of the Scots 4 Turkeys drive. I’m told Highland Park High School students will be credited with one service hour per turkey, up to 10 turkeys. [Giggling while imagining your average Highland Belle loading her SUV with 10 frozen birds.] High schoolers can also claim a service hour by buying a Scots 4 Turkeys T-shirt during lunch. (Really?)

Giving turkeys to the deserving is awesome! Think this is a total cop out to the point of the service hours. How many other schools that have a volunteer service hour graduation requirement allow the students to buy their way out of actually volunteering?

@avid reader – Most of the kids at the high school do far more service hours than the required 50 service hours so I think it is a great way to get lots of donations for the North Texas Food Bank!
