City Council to Hold One Doozy of Meeting

Sure, the expansion of the Highland Park Middle School cafeteria and the reconstruction of the Park Cities YMCA are big deals. But what caught my eye on the agenda for this evening’s University Park City Council meeting is a scheduled 10-minute discussion of a “possible modification of [the] pool pass ordinance to allow use by former mayors no longer residing within University Park.” If that gets approved, I’m going to propose that the pool passes also be made available to Park Cities People managing editors who have never resided within University Park. I want another shot at the water slide.

What is one good reason why anyone living outside of University Park, ex-mayor or not, get any access to the pool?

Let us know how it turns out… and why are the school board and city council always on the same night? Seems they could coordinate better?

    Looking forward to some updates.

I agree with Avid Reader. I don’t understand why? Not that 1 more person/family will make a difference in the already over crowded pool.

Doesn’t the “anybody can bring a guest” policy already provide a means for ex-Mayors to get in and swim? It’s that policy that overcrowds our pool. If anything, let’s curtail it.

Ugh. Why can’t our esteemed former mayors spend their leisure time parading naked around the locker room at Lifetime Fitness like the rest of the old men in our community?

@Avid Reader: The answer is the same as the reason why the city council dragooned the taxpayers into paying a monthly fee into a badly managed scholarship fund for children of city employees: Because they can.

I see the pool pass for a former city leader as a sign of respect and a token of thanks for his public service.
Many Dallas residents who reside in the HPISD boundaries can purchase pool passes.

My thoughts on this subject echoes that of Avid Reader. If you’re not living in the Park Cities and thus not paying taxes that is used to maintain the pool(s), you have no business using the facilities.
