SMU to Host New York Times Editor

Jill Abramson, the executive editor of The New York Times, will be in Dallas three weeks from today. She’ll be speaking at the Belo Mansion as part of the Louise B. Raggio Endowed Lecture Series, hosted by SMU’s Dedman School of Law. And I’m writing about this because I’m genuinely interested in hearing her speak, not because I might want to get on her radar for future employment opportunities. Tickets are $25.

And just wait until you DO hear her speak, Dan. I guarantee you’ll not soon forget her voice.

I think I heard it on “Charlie Rose” once. Sort of Diane Rehm-ish, isn’t it?

Diane Rehm has a vocal disorder that causes her to speak the way she does. Abramson, on the other hand, has no disorder of which aware, but employs what comes across as a profoundly affected accent.
