Missing a Lexus First-Aid Kit? Give DPD A Call

Did anyone notice our highly-condensed police blotter in last week’s paper? Thoughts? As I mentioned here, we’re testing out a new format, so the crimes I blog are extras that didn’t make it in the paper. If you didn’t catch the blotter’s makeover last week, be sure to pick up an issue on Friday and let us know what you think.

Between 1:30 and 9:50 p.m. on March 27, a burglar broke into a white 2003 Hyundai sedan at NorthPark Center and stole a $40 denim backpack containing a $150 text book, a $100 porcelain tea set, two sketchbooks with a combined value of $50, $50 worth of art supplies, and an iPad charger. The victim left a window open wide enough for the burglar to reach in and unlock the car.

After 11:45 p.m. on March 28, a burglar stole a white 1999 Ford van valued at $4,00 from the 5000 block of Greenway Boulevard. The van was later recovered, but three paint sprayers with a combined value of $4,000 and two paint compressors with a combined value of $1,000 were nowhere to be found.

Between 12:45 and 1:20 p.m. on March 29, a thief removed a $600 Burberry wallet containing a $300 Tiffany pen, a $42 Swarovski pen, a driver’s license, checkbook, and various insurance and credit cards from the purse of a woman dining at Maggiano’s in NorthPark Center. The woman reportedly left the purse hanging on the back of her chair while she dined.

At 5:45 a.m. on April 1, police found the first aid kit from a Lexus discarded in the 5400 block of Druid Lane.

At around 4:20 p.m. on April 1, an employee of Macy’s at NorthPark Center watched on camera while a teenager took 17 shirts with a combined value of $755.55, two pairs of pants with a combined value of $119.24, and a backpack into a dressing room. He exited a short time later with a full backpack but no merchandise. Employees detained the sticky-fingered teen in the parking lot and arrested him on a theft charge.
