Caruth Hills Group Asks Motorists to Drive Slow

rsz_2untitledIt’s that time of year again. The Caruth Hills & Homeplace Neighborhood Association is posting signs throughout the area bounded by Lovers Lane, Airline Road, Northwest Highway, and Central Expressway, reminding drivers to “WHOA!!! DRIVE SLOW.” Twice a year, the neighborhood association undertakes this initiative to try to slow down the highway traffic flowing into its residential streets. The signs will appear in yards through Memorial Day.

While I applaud the effort, the dozens of signs are an eyesore in the neighborhood. Why not get one or two of the signs that show your current driving speed like there are on Lovers Lane? Those are much more effective. I’ll bet they would also show that the speeding problem is more one of perception as well. A car going the speed limit of 30mph on our narrow streets simply looks like its going too fast. Any actual police data on speeders in this area?

Thank you Caruth Hills & Homeplace Neighborhood Association for caring! Your efforts are appreciated.

Your signs are not any eyesore as the above has stated, they help protect families and children from careless drivers.

I’ve had to chuckle once again at folks who author blog comments under assumed names. I wonder when the Park Cities People will require real first and last names?

    @ Timba,
Not perception, reality. Whenever I am in the front yard with the kids, or doing yardwork, there are always cars flying by (mostly teenagers), well in excess of 30 mph.

    @ Sam,
Do you notice that you’re the only one who cares about using real names on posts? You may want to get over it, you’re starting to look like a crackpot.

We went over this Sam. They will require it when you buy them and have the authority to make those decisions.

Gee….the name calling begins. Well, to start, I proudly display commendations from Highland Park, Texas and Dallas County, Texas that really beg to differ. I’m wondering what you have (I’m chuckling)?

No big deal, I expect it whenever positive change is attempted. By the way, I’ve read some of your past comments, and I wouldn’t be calling names out on blogs.

Thanks for your comments, and, Have a great day!

XT- As I said, I applaud the effort, but do you have any hard data on speeding in the area? I know police have set up traps a couple of times in different areas of the city to determine if a problem really exists. Each time they come up with numbers showing the vast majority of drivers are at or below the speed limit. Have you asked them to do that for you? Tamborello- Chuckle all you want to you ninny. The only reason you use your name is that you like reading it in print, because you are dying for attention and simply can’t get any respect otherwise.

    Timba,

No, I don’t, but while I can’t speak to other streets, I am very comfortable that it is a problem on mine.
Frankly, since this is just about paper/plastic signs saying slow down, I’m not sure gathering data is required.. If this was about adding extra police officers, live speed signs, etc, then I would agree with you

XT- Judging from the number of signs, there are obviously plenty of people in the neighborhood who feel the same way about speeders in your area. Why not get everyone together, go to the city council and try to get some relief? Somebody in your group is organized enough to get sponsors, design signs and distribute them. Get that guy to do it. You get your problem solved and we don’t have to look at 100 signs in the streets. Again, I applaud your effort, but if you have to do this year after year, you have ask if it is really working or not.

    Timba-
Actually, I have nothing to do with that group, and don’t even live in the Caruth Hills area that has the signs, although I do drive by it everyday.
I was simply responding to your comment that the speeding is a perception, not a reality.

One hurdle for the group is that the boundaries are in two different cities.

XT- Unless you stand in your yard with a radar gun measuring the speed of passing cars, then what you are experiencing is the perception of speeding. Lovers Lane from 75 to Boedecker is also in two different cities and they were able to slow traffic down there. It can be done and someone from CHHNA should get the ball rolling so we dont have to look at those signs every year.

Timba, To summarize, people have no ability to perceive when people are speeding, they are in fact not speeding, it’s only a perception. Thanks, I didn’t realize that.
Of course, perception is by definition relative, so if the people I think are speeding are really only going 30mph, the by extension, the people that I think are driving at the speed limit must in fact be driving 15 mph or so. Or maybe everyone’s going the same speed, and my feeble human brain is incapable of differentiating that.
I’m pretty comfortable that the 17 year old boys who gun it down my street aren’t going thirty. I’m also comfortable that 95% of the people who drive down the street are driving within or around the speed limit. And I’m comfortable that I have nothing to do with the signs, and that nothing will stop 17 year old boys, or the moms running late for something, from speeding.
    Let’s agree to disagree.

@XT, just curious,…your cruising the PCP at 8:25 pm on Wednesday night with approx. 16 tornadoes swirling around in N. Texas.

You should be watching the weather news. Forget the speeders!

Tamborello- You really are a piece of work. First you come off as a condescending jerk “chuckling” at bloggers who don’t have the same courage, (or stupidity), that you have to use their real name. Then you prance out your so called “commendations from Highland Park, Texas and Dallas, Texas”, and arrogantly ask if anyone else has been lauded as much as you have. Thanks for the clarification that Dallas is in Texas by the way. Then, being the incredible super geek that you are, you make an awkward attempt to malign me by parsing through time stamps on this blog and pointing out corresponding weather events. Finally it’s, “No big deal, I forgive you”. Sweet Baby Jesus you are one passive aggressive messed up individual.

I’ve burst out laughing! Timba, I forgave you… but since I’m a “super geek” you’ve proven for me why real names need to be used on the PCP blog.

Are you “Timba”, “XT” or another alias talking to yourself on the same blog page as above and being the same person. Honestly, you can’t hide on the internet. Internet footprints are all over. So it’s best to say what you say with a real name, it keeps stuff honest. You may be a case in point.

You gave it away on your blog comment for May 17, 2013 at 5:14 pm. Let me quote you Timba….”you make an akward attempt to malign me by parsing through time stamps on this blog and pointing out corresponding weather events.” Umm, On May 17, 2013 at 12:20 p.m. I was talking to “XT”.

So Timba, how can I be maligning you when I was supposedly talking to “XT?” Burst out laughing! Same person talking through various alias names.

And I’m the messed up individual. Too funny! Say hello to the Highland Park Community League for me.

Wishing you a calm day. Go fishing or something.

P.S… I also have a photographic memory. So all the careless driving going on in HIghland Park, Texas….well…the HP DPS knows who you are.

I’ve burst out laughing at my stupid type-o! Gosh, life must be so much better with a photographic memory of who I really am. Gee, with all this hateful name calling you’d think I could keep mine straight like Tamborello does. That way every stupid comment I make could be traced back through internet footprints to my real name and HP DPS would know who I am too. That’s called keeping stuff honest. I’m chuckling at myself right now! Oh well self, no big deal, I forgive you. Have a safe day! Have a great weekend!

I burst out laughing when I looked back in the thread, and realized that SAM was the one in the second post who was “aggressive and hateful”. Maybe Sam has split personalities. If he does, I forgive him. If he doesn’t, I forgive him! Or I forgive both of him!

Sam, Caruth Hills is not in Highland Park. Not even close. Not sure what the HP police would be doing over there. (Chuckling)
Your HP commendations won’t do you much good in University Park. No offense, but we really don’t care much about HIghland Park, except for the school district.
