Westcott Announces Honorary Chair, Not Campaign

This morning, I got a press release from Chart Westcott’s people announcing Troy Aikman as the Honorary Chairman of his campaign. But the thing is, Westcott hasn’t announced his candidacy yet for the District 108 seat.

“I remember watching, along with the rest of the state of Texas, in awe and admiration as Troy Aikman and the Dallas Cowboys won three Super Bowls in just four years,” Westcott said in the statement. “To my everlasting benefit I have developed a close friendship with Troy over the last decade.”

In that same statement, Westcott says that his father and Aikman are the two men he considers to be moral examples. But, Chart, when will this gig be official? I’m picturing a meme with the Dos Equis guy saying, “I don’t always run for state rep, but when I do, I announce my honorary chair first.”

Another hopeful, Morgan Meyer, announced his candidacy just hours after Dan Branch said he would make a run for attorney general. Court Alley is expected to announce in the coming days as well. No word on Josh Ellis yet. But, as Dan mentioned, any potential candidates have until Dec. 9 to file, so the gate hasn’t been pulled quite yet.

Well, I think a little less of Troy Aikman now.

Don’t look now Ghandi, but if, out of all possible choices, one of the two exemplars of morality you cite to the press is a guy who threw a ball for a living, you may very well be a colossal tool.

This is off the Charts silly. Having Troy help with a full-Court-press for an entitled rich kid makes my head Aik. Josh could go for the Alley-oop and have someone Ellis who’s actually qualified to slam dunk it, but that’s not how people like that swing the Branch, you know.
