Highland Park rising senior Scottie Scheffler made the most of his final trip to the United States Junior Amateur Open this weekend at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif.

Scheffler used a late surge to win the tournament for the first time on Saturday. He defeated 16-year-old David Riley, 3 and 2, in the 36-hole final.

“I played pretty well down the stretch,” Scheffler said. “In the morning round, I gave away a lot of shots, and I struggled with the putting a little bit early, then I started to figure it out.”

Scheffler has won two straight Class 4A state titles. Last season, he helped the Scots win their first Class 4A state championship since 2010.
