Village Theater Alive With ‘The Sound of Music’

The Highland Park Film Festival says “so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen” tonight with The Sound of Music at the Highland Park Village Theater.

I’m not sure that this movie needs any introduction, but just in case, the musical stars Julie Andrews as a nun hired to be the governess for the children of an Austrian naval officer (Christopher Plummer) during the 1930s. She changes their lives with music, love, and laughter.

When I was a young’un The Sound of Music was one of “my favorite things.” Every time I spent the night at my grandparent’s house, I would dress-up in a tattered pink dress from Neiman’s that I fancied looked like Liesl’s dress and twirl around singing every do, re, mi and so.

At the end of the evening, I’d inch up the stairs step by step just like Gretl and sing: “The sun has gone to bed and so must I.” There might or might not be an encore of that scene tonight when I go home.

The doors open at 7 p.m., but you’ll want to show up early to get your free ticket. “I have confidence” they’ll go pretty quickly.
