On this day that our nation remembers a tragedy, I’m proud to tell you how seven officers with the Highland Park Department of Public Safety have honored those we lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
Last Saturday, the seven officers participated in the Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Renaissance Tower. Check-in started at 6:45 a.m. with the opening ceremony and a moment of silence. Then, the men began their climb up 55 floors. Each participating officer wore the badge number of a fallen hero.
At 9:59 a.m. and 10:28 a.m., all climbers paused for a moment, in honor of the exact time the towers fell. In total, 343 officers from around Dallas-Fort Worth took part in the ceremony.
As you may remember, I first posted about this when the officers came to tell the Town Council of their plans. Each man told about the officer he was representing, and some were in tears while doing so.
Thanks, officers, for showing us how to truly honor these heroes, and how to be one yourself.
