Here’s Our Weekly Criminal Compilation

Until we’re ready to send out our weekly emailed police report, we’re going to post the rundown of major crimes here. There was plenty of activity to keep the Dallas PD busy during the New Year’s holiday. Enjoy.


At 2:50 p.m., police responded to a fight among panhandlers at the intersection of Dallas Parkway and West Northwest Highway. An argument led to one homeless man punching another in defense of a friend, followed by a retaliation that involved a third man being thrown to the ground and hit with his own crutches. Three men fled the scene. Police issued a warning to the man on crutches, who was not seriously injured.

At 4 p.m., two shoplifters stole about $126 worth of clothing from the Hollister store in NorthPark Center. The stolen items included a $60 pair of camo pants, two long-sleeve T-shirts with a combined value of $36, and a $30 pair of five-pocket jeans. Denzel Ladell Cook, 19, and Danielle Janiece Clay, 17, were each arrested on theft charges.

At 4:40 p.m., an employee of Macy’s at NorthPark Center was caught transferring $200 in cash from a register into his pocket. The thief was taken to the store’s loss-prevention office, where he was apprehended. Lovett Lenard Gibson, 20, was arrested on a theft charge.

Between 5:10 and 5:50 p.m., a burglar broke into a tan 2007 Toyota sedan at Preston Forest Square and stole a $150 Lacoste bag, a $15 pair of socks, and three signed blank checks.

At 9 p.m., a thief stole a $150 wallet, containing $400 worth of gift cards and $140 in cash, from a woman’s pocket outside NorthPark Center. The woman did not get a full description of the pickpocket.

At 10:20 p.m., a woman was bumped in a restroom at NorthPark Center, causing the contents of her purse to spill. During the incident, a thief stole her $599 iPhone 5C.


Between 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 and 8:25 a.m. on Jan. 2, a burglar broke into a home that is being remodeled in the 6900 block of Desco Drive. The burglar entered through an unlocked patio door and ransacked the portion of the home that was being occupied, although the homeowner was out of town during the burglary. The thief found the keys to a tan 2007 Cadillac Escalade, valued at $15,000, and also stole $10,000 in cash, three flat-screen televisions with a combined value of $5,000, and a $400 Xbox console.

At 10:10 a.m., a burglar broke into a black 2013 Cadillac SUV at Preston Forest Square and stole a $300 iPhone 4. A witness called police, and Elvin Lee Mitchell, 45, was arrested on a burglary charge.

Between 9 p.m. on Jan. 1 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, a burglar broke into a white 2005 Toyota sedan in the 6400 block of Prestonshire Lane and stole $100 in cash, a $100 Swatch watch, $60 worth of Burberry cologne, a $50 Guess leather wallet, and $20 worth of watch bands.


Between 1 and 2 p.m., a burglar kicked in the door of a house in the 11200 block of Shelterwood Lane and stole a $1,500 iMac laptop computer, a $500 iPad, and a $500 Coleman gas generator.

At 4:28 p.m., a shoplifter stole two pairs of boots, with a combined value of about $250, from Dillard’s at NorthPark Center. The thief tried to steal the boots and boxes in a baby stroller by taking them into a women’s restroom, but was apprehended outside the mall. Celeste Deleon, 24, was arrested on a theft charge.

Between 10:45 a.m. and 8:50 p.m., a burglar broke into a blue 2003 Ford pickup at NorthPark Center and stole a $150 JVC stereo.


Between 1:35 and 1:40 p.m., two thieves stole a $500 Toshiba laptop computer from behind the counter at a podiatrist’s office in the 12800 block of Preston Road.

At 4 p.m., a shoplifter stole a $649 iPhone from the Apple store at NorthPark Center. He placed the phone and accessories into his pocket, but was caught on surveillance video and apprehended. Freddy Levelle Gipson, 17, was arrested on a theft charge and taken to jail.

At 5 p.m., a dispute over a parking space at NorthPark Center led to a man in a gray 2007 Nissan sedan having a gun pointed at him.

At 8:30 p.m., three women tried to purchase several thousand dollars’ worth of merchandise from the Apple store in NorthPark Center using fraudulent credit cards. The women were arrested after a store employee called police, who confiscated 45 counterfeit credit cards. The women said they received the cards from a Nigerian man in Houston who hired them to be “secret shoppers.” Ebonie Markie Sophus, 22; Jasmine Jayne Neal, 25; and Lalania Fay Hollimon, 35, were each arrested on fraud charges.


Between 8 p.m. on Jan. 4 and 9:14 a.m. on Jan. 5, a burglar broke into a black 2006 Mercedes sedan in the 8500 block of Thackery Street and stole $2,000 in cash, including a jar that contained $300 in change.

At 3:49 p.m., two shoplifters stole two iPhone 5S, with a combined value of $1,298, from the Apple store in NorthPark Center. One of the thieves placed the phones in the purse of the other, and both were apprehended as they left the store. Julio Rodriguez-Aragon, 37, and Cosette Rodriguez-Cabrera, 35, were each arrested on theft charges.
