Denise Gee is a public information officer at SMU. She’s also the author of several cookbooks. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of her latest, Southern Casseroles: Comforting Pot-Lucky Dishes, and my family’s bellies are benefiting greatly. I’ve prepared three dishes based on Gee’s recipes — Jambalaya Ya-Ya, Soul Food with a Cornbread Cap, and Sissy’s Spicy Shrimp & Cheese Grits. All three were devoured by smiling faces, and that’s saying something considering what finicky eaters my sons are. I highly recommend you find your own copy of the book.
