That certainly sounds like reason to celebrate, and the folks at the new Top Pot Doughnuts location at the intersection of Hillcrest and Northwest Highway are doing just that.

The store, which opened this spring, is launching a canned-food drive in association with the North Texas Food Bank. The eatery also will hold a drawing at 8 a.m. for the chance to win a dozen doughnuts each month for a year. Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. for that.

By the way, National Doughnut Day traces its roots back to World War I, when the Salvation Army “Doughnut Dollies” served them up in huts near the front lines. The day was established officially, if you can say that, in 1938.
