Police Report: July 7 to July 12


SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: Sweet Treat Leaves A Sour Taste

At 7:30 p.m. on July 10, a vandal threw a Baskin-Robbins ice cream cake at the back door of a house in the 3200 block of Beverly Drive. Two witnesses saw a tan BMW occupied by two teenagers driving quickly away from the scene.


HIGHLAND PARK

7 MONDAY
Between 11:30 p.m. on July 6 and 9 a.m. on July 7, a burglar stole more than $7,200 in cash from a bank bag locked in an office at Patrizio’s in Highland Park Village. The incident included damage to a rear office door and lock, and a filing cabinet. It followed a similar burglary on June 29 involving cash kept in an office. The employee who reported the crime suspects the theft was an inside job, listing all of the current and past workers who had access or knowledge of where cash is kept inside the business. A subsequent background check on each of them revealed multiple employees with criminal histories.

At 10:05 a.m., a resident of the 4500 block of Lorraine Avenuereported the theft of a check, made out for $450, as well as a $200 Montblanc pen, sometime between June 11 and June 13. The check was made out to the son of a cleaning contractor who was at the house on June 11. The apologetic contractor admitted taking her son to help clean the house on that date. He has an extensive criminal history including robbery, burglary, and fraud charges.

At 4 p.m., Rashid Ali Mohammed, 20, of Glenn Heights was arrested in the 4300 block of West Mockingbird Lane on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

13 SUNDAY
At 1:05 a.m., a cab driver reported that he wasn’t paid a $20 fare after dropping off an intoxicated passenger in the 4500 block of Belfort Place. An officer opened an unlocked door at the house in question and called out to a man inside, but he didn’t come downstairs.

At 5:36 a.m., William McWhorter, 23, of Austin was arrested in the5400 block of Preston Road on a charge of public intoxication.


UNIVERSITY PARK

7 MONDAY
At 4:15 p.m., a shoplifter stole eight electric toothbrushes, valued at $677, from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza.

Between 4 p.m. on July 2 and 6 p.m. on July 7, a burglar broke into a white 2014 Lexus sedan in the 4300 block of Normandy Avenue and stole a $1,500 Apple laptop computer, a $600 iPad, $500 worth of Ping golf clubs, a $300 Coach purse, and $300 in cash.

10 THURSDAY
Between 5 p.m. on July 9 and 6:30 a.m. on July 10, a burglar broke into a white 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 3100 block of Caruth Boulevard and stole a $500 Lenovo laptop computer, a $150 HP printer, and a $30 rolling bag.

Between midnight and 6:30 a.m., a burglar broke into a black 2011 Chevrolet Suburban in the 3100 block of Purdue Street and stole two pairs of Chanel sunglasses with a combined value of $1,000.

11 FRIDAY
Between 2:15 and 3 p.m., a shoplifter stole $149 worth of jewelry from ShopSeptember in Snider Plaza by stuffing the merchandise into her bra while the clerk was distracted.

12 SATURDAY
At 5:20 p.m., a thief left Hawaiian Nail Bar in Park Cities Plazawithout paying for $57 worth of nail and eyebrow services. When an employee chased the woman to her car, a male accomplice pushed the employee to the ground and stole a $300 Samsung Galaxy phone after the employee tried to take a picture of the license plate. The following day, a thief stole $5,000 in cash from the salon in a separate incident.
