Police Report: July 28 to August 3
SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: Try Not to Stand Out
At 3:42 p.m., a thief stole a $65,000 orange alligator jacket with fur trim from the Carolina Herrera store at Highland Park Village. Store employees told officers the door to the storage room was not closing properly.
HIGHLAND PARK
28 JULY: At 1:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 5400 block of Byron Avenue to find damage to the base cover of a signal light at Byron Avenue and Mockingbird Lane. The cover, valued at $3,000, appeared to have been hit by an unknown vehicle.
29 JULY: At 5:05 a.m., an officer noticed a green 1996 Toyota 4Runner parked in the 4300 block of Westside Drive with significant damage to the driver’s side, side-view mirror, and left-side panels. A resident then came outside and said some of the damage to her uncle’s car had occurred overnight.
At 4:48 p.m., a resident of the 3500 block of Potomac Avenuereported fraudulent use of identification to take out a $1,000 cash loan. The victim first became aware of the fraud when he received a late-payment notice from Speedy Cash Online Loan Service.
30 JULY: Between 9 p.m. on July 29 and 7 a.m. on July 30, a burglar broke into a black 2010 Dodge pickup in the 3400 block of Cornell Avenue, but didn’t steal anything.
At 12:25 p.m., a resident of the 4600 block of Arcady Avenuereported a set of 8 Ping irons, Odyssey putters, TaylorMade RB2 woods, and a Crown Royal golf bag stolen from his white 2012 Ford pickup. The items had been recovered by the Dallas Police Department on July 25.
31 JULY: Between 8:45 p.m. on July 30 and 8 a.m. on July 31, a thief entered an unlocked, silver 2013 Ford F-150 parked in the3400 block of St. Johns Avenue and stole two checkbooks and a social security card.
At 7:38 p.m., a resident of the 3800 block of Potomac Avenuereported a black men’s Trek road bike, a turquoise women’s Trek bike, and a gray men’s mountain bike valued at $4,050 stolen from his garage. The victim believes the bikes were stolen between July 23 and July 29 when family or contractors may have left the garage open.
At 9: 14 p.m., an officer found a Texas license plate in the 4400 block of Mockingbird Lane and traced it to a white 1998 Ford pickup. Police could not find the owner.
1 AUGUST: At 5:05 p.m., a driver of a black 2007 Ford F350 hit a light pole at the 3500 block of Crescent Avenue and Abbott Avenue. A caller reported the incident and took a photo on her smartphone.
3 AUGUST: At 10 a.m., a resident of the 4500 block of Belclaire Avenue reported fraudulent use of identification to take out a $732 loan. The victim first noticed the fraud after receiving a late-payment notice from Speedy Cash.
Between 4 and 4:22 p.m., a purple 2010 Kia Forte was hit in the4200 block of Oak Lawn Avenue and was abandoned on the curb, leaking fuel. Three parking signs were damaged in the accident, and the car was impounded.
Between 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 12:00 p.m. on Aug. 3, a thief stole a 48-inch television, a Wii console, a black Allez road bike, and a black mountain bike from a detached garage in the 3800 block of Mockingbird Lane. A friend had been dog sitting for the residents during their vacation.
Between 12:00 p.m. on July 27 and 12:00 p.m. on Aug. 3, a thief stole a blue Gary Fisher mountain bike, a black Storck Adrenalin mountain bike, and two black Niner mountain bikes valued at $21,500 from a garage in the 3600 block of Potomac Avenue. The victim believes his son, who was house sitting during the resident’s vacation, may have left the garage door open at some point.
UNIVERSITY PARK
28 JULY: At 10:29 a.m., a resident of the 2900 block of Purdue Street reported fraudulent use of identification to purchase clothing with the victim’s MasterCard.
At 4:34 p.m., a resident of the 4200 block of Windsor Parkwayreported fraudulent use of identification to open a Pottery Barn credit card.
29 JULY: Between 10 a.m. on July 28 and 1:24 a.m. on July 29, a thief stole a radio from a fire department vehicle in the 3800 block of University Boulevard.
31 JULY: At 7:31 p.m., a resident of the 3100 block of Purdue Street reported fraudulent use of identification to open accounts and make purchases at multiple businesses.
2 AUGUST: Between 12:50 and 1:15 p.m., a thief broke into a yellow 2003 Chevy Avalanche from a restaurant in the 6400 block of North Central Expressway and stole it.
At 9:20 p.m., Beatriz Banda, 38, of Lewisville was arrested in the6500 block of Westwick Road on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
3 AUGUST: A 2:57 a.m., an assailant struck someone with a kitchen knife in the 4500 block of Emerson Avenue. Piaget Huett, 34, of University Park was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was also arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
