Congratulations to Preston Hollow resident Sara Martinez Tucker, who was recently awarded the National Leadership Prize by McGraw Hill Financial Research Foundation.

The prize, which is in its 27th year, is among the top awards in education, focusing on innovation and finding ways to narrow achievement gaps. Tucker works to improve teacher effectiveness and student performance in science, technology, engineering, and math, especially among minorities and women.

Tucker — who serves as the CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative — was undersecretary of education under President George W. Bush, and she served as head of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, where she helped to raise academic expectations for Latino families and increase the rate of Hispanics earning college degrees.
