Skulduggery of the week: Perilous Projectiles

Between 9:24 and 9:49 p.m. on Jan. 9, a vandal fired bullets through windows of three houses in the 3300 block of Beverly Drive. At one house, two separate bullets caused additional damage to a set of curtains and a lamp shade before becoming lodged in a law book and a Gulbransen piano. One witness saw a car speeding eastbound on Beverly shortly after hearing gunshots.


Between 3 p.m. on Jan. 3 and 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, a thief stole 156 packages of roofing shingles, valued at $3,900, from a construction site in the 4500 block of Abbott Avenue.

Between 10:30 and 10:40 a.m., a thief stole a red 2007 Kia Optima from the parking lot at Whole Foods Market in the 4100 block of Lomo Alto Drive. The driver left the car running while shopping, and also left an $8,000 Persian rug in the trunk.

Between 4 p.m. on Dec. 26 and 11:30 a.m. Jan. 5, a miscreant rummaged through a black 2008 Mercedes sedan in the 3200 block of Cornell Avenue, but didn’t steal anything.

Between 10 a.m. and noon, a shoplifter stole a $1,395 Sweet Charity purse from the Christian Louboutin store at Highland Park Village.

Between 4 and 4:23 p.m., a burglar broke into a green 2007 Dodge Nitro in the 4200 block of Oak Lawn Avenue and stole a $2,000 custom tuxedo, a $500 Microsoft tablet, and a $150 RCA video monitor. The following afternoon, a burglar broke into a white 2011 GMC Denali in the same block, but didn’t steal anything.

At 9:27 a.m., police impounded a black 2001 Honda Accord that was abandoned at a stoplight at the intersection of Mockingbird Lane and Eastern Avenue. The car had its hazard lights flashing and was unlocked, but officers couldn’t find the driver.

At 4:02 a.m., Jeffrey Lamont Wilson Jr., 26, of Dallas was arrested in the 4200 block of Mockingbird Lane on a marijuana possession charge.


At 11:59 a.m., Juan Carlos Molina, 27, of Glenn Heights was arrested following a traffic stop in the 7000 block of Cleburne Street on a marijuana possession charge.

At 5:30 p.m., a burglar broke into a gray 2000 Volkswagen Jetta in the 4500 block of Drane Drive and stole $4,206 in cash.

At 6:37 p.m., a resident of the 3400 block of McFarlin Boulevardreported suspicious activity, which led to officers confronting a man who tried to flee then provided a false name. Steven Dale Brazeal, 53, of Tulsa, Okla., was detained on charges of resisting arrest, evading arrest, and failure to identify.

At 8:30 p.m., Marilyn Anne Morrison, 62, of University Park was arrested in the 3400 block of Amherst Street on a public intoxication charge.

Between 10:45 and 10:57 a.m., a burglar broke into a black 2011 Audi SUV in the 4000 block of St. Andrews Drive and stole a $500 Jack Spade briefcase, a $400 Mont Blanc pen, a $230 Tod’s wallet, and various other items.

At 12:24 p.m., a resident of the 3400 block of Granada Avenuereported the overnight theft of a $150 Trek boys bicycle and a $150 Schwinn boys bicycle from their backyard.

At 12:55 p.m., a pickpocket stole a $25 purse containing $20 in cash at Park Cities Baptist Church.

At 12:02 a.m., a male shoplifter stole $35 worth of mascara and other cosmetics from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza.
