Report: HPISD Spent $13K on Ebola Cleaning

There’s a compelling story on the Austin American-Statesman website that flashes back to last year’s Ebola concern in Texas, and specifically how much school districts around the state spent to deep-clean schools as a precautionary measure.

Of course, Highland Park ISD was one of those nine school districts. According to the newspaper, HPISD spent $13,000 during that process, including $7,200 in overtime pay for its facilities services staff and $5,800 for aerosol germicidal spray.

Was the expense necessary? Draw your own conclusions, but the story is worth reading in full if for no other reason than for this quote from HPISD superintendent Dawson Orr: “People were absolutely just freaking out.”
