Cistercian QB Merrick Heads to Longhorns

Cistercian quarterback Matthew Merrick, a University Park resident, committed to play at the University of Texas on Wednesday, although it’s possible he will “grayshirt” and instead be on scholarship for the 2016 season, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Merrick passed for more than 2,400 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior this season for the Hawks, who finished with a 5-5 record. He is a three-year starter at Cistercian and is a highly rated pro-style quarterback by various scouting services. Merrick also had scholarship offers from Colorado State and Nevada.

Also signing for Cistercian on Wednesday were football players Dare Odeyingbo (Vanderbilt) and Nick Skalak (Missouri), soccer player Ryan Watters (Cornell), and rower Ben Tilden (Columbia).
