HP Senior to Defend State Swimming Titles

After winning a pair of gold medals at the Class 4A state swimming meet last year, Highland Park senior Kate Boyer is back for more.

Boyer qualified for the Class 6A state meet on Feb. 20-21 in the same two events — 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle — after winning both races at the Region II meet over the weekend in Rockwall.

On the boys side, HPHS freshman Felix VanCauwelaert will make his first appearance at the state meet after placing second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 500 freestyle at regionals. The HP boys were second in the team standings behind Southlake Carroll at the regional meet.

VanCauwelart also was part of a second-place team in the boys 400 freestyle relay that set a school record with a second-place regional finish. He’ll be joined at the state meet by his older brother Jasper, as well as Mason Kelly and Nick Moore.
