Bad Weather Sends Good Food to Shelter
Some spontaneous collaboration between two nonprofits gave a hot meal to some needy folks during this week’s wintry weather.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas had to cancel its Women’s Event fundraiser on Monday night. That meant that 600 hot meals already prepared by the venue hosting the event — the Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel — were in danger of going to waste.
So the leadership of the Jewish Women’s Philanthropy Center decided to turn the unfortunate circumstances into a unique opportunity by donating those meals to Union Gospel Mission of Dallas.
“This is an expression of the values that we hold dear in the Jewish community,” said Bradley Laye, JFGD president and CEO.
Meanwhile, the organization is working to reschedule its fundraiser, and prepare another round of kosher dinner plates in the process.
