The Highland Park girls track team will make its annual appearance in front of the home fans on Saturday when it hosts the Tracy Wills Invitational at Germany Park.
The meet begins with the 3,200 meters at 7:45 a.m. and field events starting at 8:15. Running finals will commence at 1 p.m., following a recognition of seniors on the HP roster. Other schools scheduled to compete include Allen, Arlington Bowie, Frisco Liberty, Leander Rouse, Mansfield Legacy, Mesquite Poteet, and Wylie.
The festivities include a “fun run” for younger girls at 8:45 a.m., with kids in kindergarten through third grade running 800 meters (or two laps of the track), and those in grades 4-6 doubling that distance at 1,600 meters.
As always, the meet is named in honor of Wills, a runner at HPHS who died during her sophomore year. The Highland Park Education Foundation gives a scholarship in Wills’ name each year.
