Highland Park started its playoff run on a positive note on Thursday, winning 1-0 over Irving MacArthur to start a Class 6A Region II bi-district series at Scotland Yard.

Layne Looney hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in the only run of the game on just the second hit of the night for the Scots (23-5). William Adair threw a shutout on the mound.

The second game of the series will be tonight in Irving, while a third game, if necessary, is slated for Saturday at HP.

In softball action, Rockwall crushed HP 17-0 in five innings in the opening game of an area-round series on Thursday in Rockwall.

The unbeaten Lady Jackets hit four home runs, while the Lady Scots managed just one hit in the loss. HP swept Irving last weekend in its bi-district series.

The Lady Scots face elimination unless they can rally in the second game tonight and a potential third game on Saturday, both of which are at home.
