Bon Appetite from the Kids in the Kitchen

The nationally recognized program founded in 2006, Kids in the Kitchen, was kicked off this week by the Junior League of Dallas.

Kids in the Kitchen is an eight-week after school program that aims to educate more than 600 Dallas youth, in kindergarten through fifth grade, on how to develop healthier lifestyles.

Throughout the daily one-hour sessions staff and volunteers, from local agencies and organizations, engage the youth in exercise activities, teaching them how to make age-appropriate recipes, and introduce them to nutritious and healthy habits.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that more than one-third of children and adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or suffering from obesity. The Junior League of Dallas and UnitedHealthcare aim to decrease the number and believe education is the first step to making a significant change in current childhood obesity statistics.

Local agencies participating in this year’s program include:

  • Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas
  • Kids-U
  • Ronald McDonald House
  • Voice of Hope Ministries Inc.
  • Foundation Communities
  • And more!

The Junior League of Dallas is an organization of women who aim to enhance the community by promoting voluntarism and believe volunteering is essential to being a responsible citizen within the community. Kids
