Highland Park is one victory away from a return trip to the Class 6A state tournament.

The Lady Scots rallied for a 4-1 win over previously unbeaten Klein on Friday in the Region II semifinals at the Reeves Complex in Austin, where they will meet Rockwall at 11 a.m. Saturday with a state tournament berth in the balance.

Klein was the second state powerhouse that HP has knocked off during its postseason run, and both came in similar counter-punching fashion. Just as they did against Sachse a week ago, the Lady Scots didn’t strike first, but they struck hardest.

After a scoreless first half, the Bearkats (22-1-2) took the lead before HP roared back with four goals in quick succession. Rachel Wasserman scored two of them, while Savanna Jones and Riley Malone each added a goal to help the Lady Scots (22-3) pull away.

Rockwall, which finished second behind Sachse in District 11-6A during the regular season, also came from behind on Friday for a 2-1 win over Round Rock Westwood. The Lady Jackets have never been to the state tournament.

HP eliminated Rockwall in the area round last season on its way to a runner-up finish at the state tournament.
