After seeing its string of eight consecutive state titles end last season, Highland Park is showing that it’s serious about starting a new streak this fall.

The Scots are still more than a month away from the start of postseason play, but already have shown their strength with victories this season over defending Class 5A state champion Grapevine and, more recently, against perennial power Southlake Carroll on Sept. 9.

In the 12-7 win over the Dragons, HP swept the girls singles matches (Elizabeth Tedford, Katherine Petty, Logan Lett, Marie Claire Goff, Ashlee Newton, and Madison McBride) and got boys singles wins from Phillip Quinn and Conrad Hansen. The Scots also won four of seven doubles contests.

HP stayed unbeaten with a 10-3 win over Mesquite Poteet on Tuesday. The Scots will host El Paso Coronado on Friday before a stretch of five straight road matches that includes a rematch against Grapevine on Sept. 24.
