Highland Park has had at least one girl run at the state cross country meet for 43 consecutive years. This fall, the Lady Scots will bring the whole team.

They finished fourth in the team standings at the Class 5A Region II meet on Saturday in Grand Prairie to earn the final qualifying spot for the state meet on Nov. 12 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

HP was fourth as a group behind Prosper, Frisco Liberty, and Frisco Wakeland. Sophie Schott was the top finisher for the Lady Scots, completing the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 55 seconds — good for 15th place.

All seven HP runners placed in the top 50, including Olivia Scott (22nd place), Annemarie Whalen (27th), Emma Parker (32nd), Grace Beitter (38th), Maddy Stephens (44th), and Grace Teffaha (46th).

On the boys side, HP will have two individual runners at state, although the Scots fell just short of team qualification with a fifth-place finish at regionals. Jorge Rodriguez (sixth place) and Logan Gwinn (21st) each will head to Round Rock.
