How’s this for progress — it had been five years since the Highland Park boys defeated Jesuit in a dual swimming meet before this month.

The Blue Wave reversed that trend in a big way thanks in large part to the efforts of Robby King and Felix Van Cauwelaert, who each won two individual events against the Rangers on Nov. 1. Van Cauwelaert took the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, while King triumphed in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Henry Wang won the 100 breaststroke, while Ethan Nguyen won the 100 butterfly.

The HP girls fell to Ursuline during the same meet. Lauren Lake won the diving competition, while Morgan Rehme had a pair of podium finishes in individual events.

The prior week, HP cruised past Woodrow Wilson in a dual meet, with the boys winning every event and the girls almost doing the same. Among the top performers were Robby King, Tommy King, Van Cauwelaert, Ethan Nguyen, Rehme, Georgia Kelly, Sofia Lara, Avery Waco, and Phoebe Nguyen.

The Blue Wave will be back in the pool on Nov. 12 at the Cougar Classic in The Colony.
