Congratulations to Highland Park’s Maddy Stephens, right, who took second place in the 800 at the Class 5A state meet in Austin.

Highland Park junior Maddy Stephens won a silver medal in the girls 800 meters at the Class 5A state track and field meet on Friday in Austin.

Stephens finished in a time of 2 minutes, 13 seconds, which was about three seconds behind Marble Falls freshman Bailey Goggans, and almost a full second ahead of Bridgeland’s Eliana Lake in third place.

Also at state, HP freshman Ella Patterson placed sixth in the 400 with a time of 56.78 seconds. Bailey Lear of Frisco Heritage, who also defeated Patterson at the Region II meet, won the event.
