JDRF To Host Off To College Conversation And Panel

JDRF Greater Dallas Chapter is hosting an “Off to College” conversation and panel discussion focusing on the transition for teenagers with type 1 Diabetes into college life and independent adulthood.

The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the SMU Umphrey Lee Center, Room 237.

Endocrinologist Dr. Pablo Mora and Alicia Row, both certified Diabetes educators, will lead group sessions to discuss the medical considerations of transferring from a pediatric endocrinologist to one specializing in adult care, at the same time leaving home.

Guests also will hear from a panel of current students with Diabetes and their parents sharing what they have learned during this transition.

Students and parents will then be separated into breakout session to discuss topics such as talking to RA’s and roommates about Diabetes, studying abroad, and handling alcohol and parties.

The event is free and open to the public.
