The stakes will be particularly high when longtime rivals Jesuit and ESD square off on Saturday in the Texas High School Lacrosse League state semifinals.

The game is slated for 2 p.m. at Ron Poe Stadium in McKinney, with the winner facing either Highland Park or Austin Westlake on Sunday for the title.

The Rangers (15-3) won the regular-season matchup between the teams by an 8-7 score in double overtime on April 25. Jesuit rolled past Houston Memorial 8-1 in a quarterfinal last weekend to advance.

The Eagles (17-3) have earned five consecutive victories since that defeat against Jesuit. ESD secured the SPC championship on April 27 against St. Mark’s, and last weekend topped defending state champion The Woodlands 12-4 to reach the state tournament.

The two programs have plenty of history in big games. Jesuit last claimed a state title in 2017, when it edged ESD in the championship game. And ESD’s most recent crown in 2014 came with a final victory over the Rangers.
