Echols Honored Before HP Blanks Conrad

Highland Park senior Presley Echols was recognized in a brief ceremony before Tuesday’s game against Conrad for breaking the school record for goals last week.

Then she wasted little time adding to her tally, as Echols netted a hat trick during a 12-0 victory that kept the Lady Scots unbeaten in District 11-5A play. She now has 150 goals in an HP uniform.

Echols, who has signed with the University of Texas, broke a 22-year-old mark previously held by former HP standout Meredith Florence (who went on to win a national championship at North Carolina before a brief professional and international soccer career).

Last year, Echols surpassed another of Florence’s 1996 records when she tallied 52 goals in a season, and led HP to a Class 5A state title. She’s well on her way to shattering that milestone this season, with 37 thus far.

In addition, Echols has accumulated multiple goals in 11 straight games, during which the Lady Scots (16-2, 9-0) have outscored their foes by a combined margin of 94-1.

Eight HP players found the back of the net during Tuesday’s rout, including two goals apiece from Keller Matise and Maja Davison. Other goal scorers included Ellen Wolfe, Megan O’Neal, Josie Hart, Amelia Stevens, and Isabella Yates.
