St. Mark’s, ESD Eye SPC Tourney Rematch

As usual, rivals St. Mark’s and ESD will be the favorites in the SPC boys lacrosse tournament this weekend in Austin.

The Lions earned a thrilling 13-12 win over the Eagles in their regular-season clash on April 14, giving St. Mark’s the top seed in the four-team bracket. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, with the championship game on Saturday.

The SPC hasn’t crowned a lacrosse champion since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but ESD is the six-time defending champion. Both the Lions (10-2) and Eagles (13-2) will begin the Texas High School Lacrosse League playoffs later this month.

Meanwhile, the Lions fell to Highland Park 11-10 in their regular-season finale on Tuesday at Highlander Stadium, snapping a 10-game winning streak.

The bulk of the SPC spring championships will take place on the weekend of April 29 in Houston, with competitions in baseball, softball, tennis, track and field, and girls lacrosse.
