Scammers Use Spoofed Dallas Water Utilities Phone Number to Request Money
Scammers are using the Dallas Water Utilities spoofed main telephone number to trick customers.
The Dallas Police Department Financial Investigations Unit reported that the number would show up on caller IDs as 214-651-1441, the city’s water utilities department’s main number. The fraudsters are using fear tactics on existing DWU customers by saying their water will be disconnected if they do not make a payment.
DWU addressed the issue and posted an alert online. The department does not call customers late on their payments, as only written notices via mail are sent.
Those who have received a call from the fraudulent phone number can email [email protected] or call 214-671-3543. Those who have experienced a monetary loss from the scam can file a theft report online at dallaspolice.net.
