Family Place Honors Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson with Trailblazer Award

The Family Place, a Dallas-based family violence service provider, announced Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson as this year’s Texas Trailblazer Award recipient.

Johnson is currently in her 15th term representing the 30th Congressional District of Texas and introduced the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, which received bipartisan support, was signed into law, and created the new 9-8-8 suicide hotline. Her initiative, A World of Women for World Peace, has also garnered national and international recognition for bringing visibility to war and conflict victims while raising awareness of women promoting non-violent conflict resolution in their communities.

“Congresswoman Johnson’s perseverance, initiative, and leadership are markers of a true trailblazer,” said The Family Place CEO Mimi Sterling. “She has blazed a trail for future generations of girls as a woman of many firsts in her esteemed career. […] When it came time to decide who would be our first Texas Trailblazer under my leadership, I knew she should be that first.”

During her time in the House, she also serves as the first African American and female to chair the committee on science, space, and technology and the highest-ranking Texan on the transportation and infrastructure committee.

Johnson will receive the award Sept. 23 at The Family Place’s Texas Trailblazer Awards Luncheon. For more information about the luncheon or organization, visit www.familyplace.org.
