SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: LICENSE PLATE LARCENY

The 3900 block of Purdue Street was a risky place to park on Wednesday. A sneaky thief pried the license plate off a vehicle sometime before 8 a.m. A second plate pilfering, this time of a Range Rover, took place sometime before 9:29 p.m.

UNIVERSITY PARK

8 Monday

Reported at 7:08 a.m.: A 62-year-old man’s unlocked BMW was stolen from a parking garage in the 3400 block of Binkley Avenue.

A burglar stole a Prada bag worth $4,500, 10 credit/debit cards, $250, $800 worth of recreational/sports equipment, and $950 worth of miscellaneous items before 7:46 a.m. from a woman’s home in the 3400 block of Villanova Avenue.

Reported at 9:46 a.m.: A dirty thief stole $77.38 of Tide and Downy products from CVS in the 6700 block of Preston Road.

A fraudster used a woman’s identifying information to steal $40,000 prior to 12:15 p.m. in the 6500 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

9 Tuesday

A potentially dry-skinned shoplifter stole $1,289.79 worth of Neutrogena and Maybelline makeup, including multiple Neutrogena Hydro Boost products, before 12:54 p.m. from CVS in the 6700 block of Preston Road.

10 Wednesday

Reported at 8:10 a.m.: A joyrider stole a locked 2023 Ford F150 from the 3900 block of Stanford Avenue.

Reported at 12:54 p.m: A stylish swindler shoplifted a Country Girly sweatshirt, a Dani sweater, and two Free People tops from Adeline in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane.

The erratic driver of a RAM Pickup was stopped for traffic violations at 10:53 p.m. in the area of Boedecker and Milton, then arrested in the 3100 block of Lovers Lane for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. His passenger was taken into custody for public intoxication.

How easy was it for a thief to get into a Ram 2500 parked overnight in the 3600 block of Bryn Mawr Drive and take $550 in KUIU clothing and a $400 Filson bag before 8:01 a.m.? The vehicle was left unlocked.

Reported at 9:54 a.m.: A sneaky thief pried the license plate off a Jeep Wrangler parked in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane.

A thief stole the taillights from a Ford F150 parked in the Highland Park High School parking garage sometime before 10:55 a.m.

Reported at 1:36 p.m.: A woman was harassed over the phone in the 2900 block of Milton Avenue.

A woman in the 4100 block of Normandy Avenue reported the receipt of a threatening text at 6:49 p.m.

12 Friday

Reported at 4:26 a.m.: A burglar unlawfully entered and damaged Hemline in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane.

More than $1,000 worth of property was taken sometime prior to 8:44 p.m. from a Land Rover Range Rover left unlocked in Preston Center Plaza.

Officers made a warrant arrest of a woman at 11:47 p.m. in the 4300 block of Lovers Lane.

13 Saturday

How much loot did a thief take before 8:54 a.m. from a Dodge Ram 1500 left unlocked in the 3200 block of Rosedale Avenue? An AllSaints purse, $2,000, a DJI Drone, Apple AirPods Pro, and a SIG Sauer P365 pistol.

14 Sunday

A man was arrested for public intoxication around 7:56 p.m. in the 3000 block of Mockingbird Lane.

10 Wednesday

A scammer stole $9,040 from a woman trying to set up an Etsy account at 10 a.m. in the 4900 block of Abbott Avenue.

12 Friday

A careless driver hit a GMC Yukon parked in front of The Honor Bar in Highland Park Village at 11:20 a.m., damaging the passenger side corner. The offender drove away with a white stripe down the side of his Mercedes.

Reported at 3:42 p.m.: a wreck that damaged the taillight and trunk of a 2015 Ford Focus at Preston Road and Beverly Drive.
