Longhorns Rally Late to Edge Hillcrest
W.T. White needed a furious late comeback to hold off rival Hillcrest 46-45 on Friday in a battle of teams who have already clinched boys basketball playoff spots.
The Longhorns (22-7, 10-1) trailed for much of the game before closing with a 14-6 spurt to complete a season sweep of the Panthers (13-15, 7-4). The two matchups were decided by a combined margin of seven points.
Ardon West scored a game-high 15 points and Trey Williams added 12 to lead WTW. Komarion Callahan paced a balanced Hillcrest attack with 11 points.
The Longhorns will carry a five-game winning streak into Tuesday’s clash with South Oak Cliff in a showdown for first place in District 13-5A. The Panthers, who have already clinched third place in the league standings, will wrap up the regular season against Adamson.
