Hillcrest, WTW Girls Advance in Playoffs
After scoring just nine points in the first half, Hillcrest rallied past Woodrow Wilson for a 32-27 win in a Class 5A Division II girls basketball playoff game on Monday.
The Panthers (15-13) battled back and closed the bi-district game on a 13-6 run. After a runner-up finish in District 13-5A during the regular season, Hillcrest advances to the area round for the second consecutive year.
In other postseason action, Dany Diaz scored 29 points as W.T. White cruised to a 55-12 win over West Mesquite on Tuesday. The 13-5A champion Longhorns (17-9) extended their overall winning streak to 13 games.
Portia Danso added 10 points and eight rebounds for WTW, which will face Red Oak on Friday in the second round. The Longhorns beat the Hawks 60-56 in a nondistrict game in November.
